Topography of home

A person’s heritage is rarely something you can plainly read head-on, but it still makes us who we are; this project demonstrates how unseen yet essential our family history is to our personal identity.

The three pieces in this series are based on topographic maps of Denmark, New Jersey, and upstate New York, where each of my grandparents comes from. These three locations are places where I’ve spent many holidays and vacations with my family, and the strings that will always tie me to them. Each piece consists of 25 slices, individually extracted from local topographic maps.
